What We Do

Property Taxes

Property taxes are assessed based on the value of real and personal property within Choctaw County. Taxes support local schools, roads, and essential public services. The Treasurer’s Office provides guidance on tax amounts, due dates, and how taxes are calculated.

Tax Statements

Annual tax statements detail the amount due for each parcel of property. Statements include property value, assessed taxes, and any exemptions applied. Residents can view or request copies of their statements through the Treasurer’s Office or online.

Payment Options

The Treasurer’s Office offers multiple ways to pay taxes, including in-person, by mail, and online. Payment options may include credit/debit cards, e-checks, or installment plans. Detailed instructions and accepted methods are provided to make paying your taxes convenient and secure.

Delinquent Taxes

Taxes not paid by the due date become delinquent and may accrue interest or penalties. The Treasurer’s Office can provide information on delinquent accounts and options for payment, including installment agreements to help bring accounts current.

Tax Sale Information

If property taxes remain unpaid for a specific period, the county may conduct a tax sale to recover delinquent amounts. The Treasurer’s Office provides details on upcoming tax sales, eligibility, procedures, and how interested parties can participate.

Frequently Asked Questions

When are property taxes due?

For Choctaw County, property taxes are generally due by January 31 of the tax year. Penalties begin the next day if taxes are unpaid.

What happens if I don’t pay my property taxes on time?

If taxes aren’t paid by the due date, the full amount becomes delinquent and penalties and interest may start accruing. Continued non‑payment could eventually lead to tax resale or foreclosure, where the property may be sold to satisfy the delinquent taxes.

What if my mortgage company pays my taxes?

If a mortgage or escrow company is responsible for paying your property taxes, they should receive the tax statement and make payment on your behalf. If your payment doesn’t show as posted, contact the Treasurer’s Office and your mortgage servicer to verify the status.

How can I find out how much I owe?

You can search property tax records online using the Treasurer’s public search tool, where you can look up your account by name or property ID and view current and past taxes due.

How do I pay online or search my tax account?

You can use the county’s online tax roll search to look up your property tax information. From that search, you should be able to view current amounts due and, if available, proceed to payment using the online system.

Why didn’t I receive a tax bill statement?

Tax statements are typically mailed out through October/November after values and rates are certified. If you didn’t receive one, it’s still your responsibility to pay on time. Contact the Treasurer’s Office to confirm your address and obtain your statement.

What payment methods are accepted?

Payments can typically be made:

  • In person at the Treasurer’s Office

  • By mail (check or money order)

  • Online (credit/debit card or other services if available)

Fees may apply for online credit/debit payments, so check the online payment page for details.

What information do I need to search or pay my taxes?

When searching or paying taxes, you’ll typically need either:

  • Your owner’s name, or

  • Your property or tax ID number

These can be found on your tax statement or through the online search tool.

How do I update my mailing address?

To update where your tax statements are sent, you need to contact the County Assessor’s Office, as they maintain property ownership and mailing address records before the Treasurer certifies tax rolls.
